As a busy executive and mom, I understand the desire to have your home be a place where you can rest and rejuvenate, connect with family and be surrounded by things that you love. My organizing method is based on the New York Times bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Japanese organizing guru, Marie Kondo. In fact, I'm soon to be one of the world's first KonMari consultants!
The KonMari method is special because:
- You keep what you love: This method is all about surrounding yourselves with items that "spark joy". It's not able getting rid of things. It's about keeping what you love.
- It takes a "whole home" approach: Instead of organizing room-by-room, this method organizes by category: first clothing, then books, then papers, followed by komono (almost everything else!) and sentimental items.
- De-cluttering is "one-and-done": Instead of spending years decluttering your house one area at a time, this method encourages you to tidy, once and for all, hopefully in a span of as little as 6 months.
- You can use what you have: In our culture of excess, this method encourages us to get back to basics. There's usually no need to invest in expensive organizational products and solutions. Most of the items you need to organize are already in your home.
