After teaching at Parkland College for 32 years, I began to help friends and neighbors with non-medical care for the seniors in their lives. We baby boomers face new and often confusing challenges as we help our older loved ones downsize, move to care facilities or age in place with dignity. My background in helping students reach their educational goals prepared me to help seniors meet their goals for managing the changing necessities of daily living. I retrained by completing courses in project management and I also trained to be both a professional organizer and senior housing specialist. I have become knowledgeable about organizing important documents, sorting through insurance claims and household expenses, and attending to the myriad of details that can consume both time and money and present obstacles to many seniors and their families.
